Sometimes, SLM Financial will require applicants to have a co-signer. For those who do not have a co-signer this loan option through TFC is particularly great for.

SLM Definitions for Online Application
- Loan Amount: The Loan Amount is the TOTAL of your Tuition Amount and Additional Expense Amount. The tuition amount represents the cost of your training and training kit (if applicable). The Additional Expense represents the cost of additional personal expenses and is paid directly to you. You may request up to 60% of your tuition amount without exceeding $6,000 for your additional expenses amount. So if you request $1,000 for your tuition you could request another $600 for your additional expenses amount.
- Repayment Term Requested: This is the length of your loan. This can be a short as 1 year or as long as 15 years. You may pay back your loan as quickly as you would like, with no penalty for early repayment. We suggest students opt for longer repayment terms (such as ten or fifteen years) because this produces lower interest and monthly payments rates.
- Interest Only Payments: This option allows you to pay only the interest on the loan for up to 12 months. This option is especially helpful for students who will be receiving limited income after training.
- Tuition Amount: The tuition amount represents the cost of your training and training kit that you would like to finance. Please call us at 408-988-8732 so we may help to determine the program and equipment that will be best for you. You may also sign up on the website to be contacted. Be sure to mention that you need pricing for your SLM Financial application.
- Graduation Date: This is the last day, which completes your Training courses.
- Additional Expenses Amount: You may request funding in addition to your Tuition amount for your personal expenses. You may request a loan for an additional 60% on top of your Tuition Amount for travel, lodging, etc. without exceeding $6,000. So if you request $1,000 for your tuition amount you could request another $600 for your additional expenses amount. A check will be sent directly to you.
- School Disbursement Date: This is the date that Sallie Mae provides payment to the school and to you for your training. This date must be 14 days before your first class begins. If you are requesting a loan for a class that takes place less than fourteen days away, use today's date.
- School Disbursement Amount: Enter the Tuition Amount
SLM Career Training Loan FAQ
- What is a Career Training Loan and is it the same kind of loan I would get from a college or university?
No, this is not the same as a federally guaranteed student loan, such as the type you are eligible for when attending a university. The qualifications and repayment terms are different. Career Training Loan eligibility is based on two factors, credit history and debt to income ratio. Another difference is that you start repayment on Career Training Loans 30 days after the date the first payment is made to the school. As far as repayment, you may choose to pay the interest only while you are in school. But unlike a federal loan you do not have the option to defer payment until after you finish your program.
- How Do I apply?
You may download an application from above or apply online using the link above. If you have questions give us a call at 408-988-8732. - Will I qualify for a Career Training loan?
To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be creditworthy. If you have no credit or a poor credit history, you may still qualify for a loan by applying with a creditworthy co-borrower, someone who will co-sign the loan with you. This can be a relative or anyone else you choose. There are many advantages to applying with a co borrower, including the possibility getting a better interest rate on the loan. - How much can I borrow?
The minimum amount you can borrow is $1,000, and you can borrow up to the total cost of the education (including tuition and equipment costs) plus additional expense money of up to 60% of the tuition but the additional expense money can not exceed $6,000. - What are the terms of the loan?
The interest rate on the loan depends on the credit rating and history of the borrower and co borrower. It may be as low as prime + 1% and fees starting at 2%. Your payment will depend on the interest rate and fees. Your loan rate and payment schedule will be clearly explained in your loan documents. The borrower may choose a repayment term of between 1 and 15 years. - How long does it take to find out if I will be awarded the loan?
Usually within 48 hours, often immediately. Do make sure you have filled out your application completely and accurately. Read the paperwork carefully, sign everything and provide all requested documents. Missing information will slow things down. If your application is denied, SLM Financial will send you a letter. If it is accepted or if more information is needed, then we will contact you. You can check with SLM Financial on the status of your loan at any time. - I have been approved for the loan, how is the money distributed?
The funds for the tuition and school costs are sent to Future Rhythm. If you have applied for additional expense money then it is mailed directly to you.
Refund Policy
There is a non-refundable registration fee. The registration fee for individual classes is $100. The registration fee for any certificate program is $500.
Student wishing a refund will receive it pro-rated according to what classes they have completed as long as they have completed 50% or less of the enrolled classes. Once a student has attended more than 50% of the enrolled classes they will no longer be eligible for a refund.
Students enrolled in certificate programs who decide not to complete it, and are eligible for a refund, will get credited for the remaining amount after subtracting the full price of individual classes completed from what the student paid.
Refunds are available for up to 90 days from the date of enrollment. Refunds are disbursed to the same person who paid the tuition fees, and are refunded in the same payment method that was used for original payment. For example, if a student loan is used, the refund will go back to the loan company. If a credit card was used, the refund would go back on the credit card.
In order to obtain a refund the student must follow the process listed in the cancellation policy.
If the school cancels or discontinues a class then the student would receive a 100% refund for that class.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation will occur when the student gives written notice of cancellation to the school. Students can do this by mail, hand delivery, or fax. The written notice of cancellation, if sent by mail, is effective when deposited in the mail properly addressed with postage prepaid. The written notice of cancellation can be expressed in anyway that lists the reason the student wishes to cancel before or during instruction. Within 30 days from when the cancellation notice is effective the refund will be disbursed.
Reschedule Policy
If student wishes to reschedule class dates they can do so with no penalty for outside of 7 days from the scheduled start date. If student wishes to reschedule a class less than 7 days before the start date, a re-scheduling fee of $100 will be withdrawn from the student's tuition deposit. Special circumstances will be taken in consideration if student re-schedules without proper notice. The school director can waive the re-scheduling fee at their discretion.
Exam Policy
Exam policies vary depending on class or program. Please inquire with the School Director to obtain specific exam policies that pertain to desired classes or programs.
