This course covers techniques for working with Digidesign Pro Tools in a professional music production environment. Concepts and skills learned in Pro Tools 101, 110, & 201 are reinforced with practical music-specific examples. You will gain hands-on experience through a series of class exercise project files. Upon successful completion of this course, and the passing of all previous class exams, the student will qualify to take the Digidesign Pro Tools Music Operator exam.

  • Use of Quick Punch
  • Working with Playlists
  • Advanced Virtual Instrument usage
  • Composing in the MIDI Environment
  • Professional Editing Techniques
  • Sampling in Pro Tools
  • Arranging & Producing in Pro Tools
  • Mixing & Automation in Music Production
  • Synchronizing with an External Recorder
  • DSP Usage
  • Use of Sends, Inserts, Mix Buses, & Groups for Music Applications
  • Synchronization Basics for Music Applications

Prerequisites

Basic Computer Skills, Pro Tools 101, Pro Tools 110, & Pro Tools 201. Any Background in Digital Audio is Helpful.

Equipment

Each student will be provided with a Pro Tools workstation for use during lecture/demonstration time.  A Pro Tools Workstation consists of a computer, Pro Tools software, Digidesign hardware (LE or HD) various computer plug-ins, a MIDI controller, and headphones. A Pro Tools HD system will be provided and may be shared by up to 2 students for exercise projects.
