This two-day course is designed to educate students on the process of capturing the acoustic sound of an instrument and recording it properly. The essentials of recording, signal flow, microphone technique, and other crucial engineering techniques are explained, demonstrated, and practiced. The home studio revolution has allowed everyone to equip themselves with a personal digital audio recording setup, but learning the core concepts of audio engineering can't be ignored. Learning the Basics of Recording & Engineering will arm students with the ability to get the most out of today's digital audio studios.

The first day of the class will consist of learning the core of audio engineering through a series of lectures and examples at the Future Rhythm facility.

On the second day of class, students will take a field trip and spend the day at a professional recording studio to learn proper techniques hands-on. This is conducted at Soundtek Studios in Campbell.

Prerequisites

Basic Computer Skills, and completion of Intro to Digital Audio Recommended.

Equipment

Each student will be given the chance to practice and experiment hands-on with various microphones, audio cables, instruments, signal processors, headphones/speakers, and any other recording studio equipment.
